Whether you're faced with a new beginning or you're 15 years deep in your workout/lifestyle regimen, I think its helpful to be able to ponder and answer the following questions. In doing so you many very well figure out your preferences, poor habits, and sense of direction. All of which can help you in achieving your goals given that there is increased clarity from honest self reflection.

  1. What does your schedule allow for? Take into consideration: your objective, drive time, concurrent priorities, rest time, etc.

  2. What are you willing to invest and sacrifice? This could look like reorganizing your work week, eliminating/omitting certain foods or "nights out," paying for a coach or a program, etc.

  3. How can you use your past to your benefit? From injuries to mindset. Think of all the instances where you engrained so called good and bad habits. Look back to the times where you were performing your best and take note of the times you were at your worst. Reflect on the notes and use them in your plan for the future.

  4. How clear is your goal and what are the self-imposed expectations? Continue to simplify what the end result should look like and the path to getting there becomes more clear.

  5. What does your support system look like? From the things that you do for yourself like prepping meals and laying out gym clothes the night before to the actual people you call on when you have questions or want external motivation and accountability.

These are simple questions that get muddied by our own internal dialogue as well as what we see happening in the outside world. There are many paths to victory, but it can be confusing on which one to take. Consider some of these thoughts and make it clear for yourself on what it is you're trying to achieve and what is reasonable and actionable with your current lifestyle.

I expand on these questions in a recent YouTube video, click the link below for a more in depth conversation on what its like to consider the essentials behind "getting into working out" ... Onward.
